Description
A welding inspector, engineer, etc. should know the different positions that a WPS or WQTR should be performed in for the job application to be performed. The test could be performed on plate, pipe, tubing, etc. to ensure that the welder is qualified for all welding positions that he/she could perform in production welding. The weld may be a weld overlay, fillet weld, groove weld or any other joint design. This is our attempt to train inspectors in the different positions that the welder may be required to test in.
Details
R5-1: 1G Pipe Position with the pipe axis horizontal, but with the pipe being rolled as it is welded
R5-2: 2G Pipe Position with the pipe axis vertical with the weld being made in the fixed horizontal plane
R5-3: 5G Pipe Position with the pipe axis in the horizontal fixed position with the weld being made in the fixed position
R5-4: 6G Pipe Position with pipe axis inclined at a 45° plane with the weld being made in the fixed position
R5-5: 6GR Pipe Position with pipe axis inclined at a 45° plane with a restriction ring placed with 1/2″ of the bevel. The weld being made in the fixed position
R5-6: In-service API-1104 Test
R5-7: 1G Plate Position – the plate’s groove weld is laying flat and the weld is being made in the flat position
